WARRENTON TRAILS ASSOCIATION

MISSION VISION

STATEMENT

Our Vision:  To create, enhance and support maintenance of a 25 mile, multiuse trail loop through historically significant public land areas within the City of Warrenton and Clatsop County.

Our Mission: To establish a trail system by developing, improving and expanding the existing 4.5 mile Warrenton Waterfront Trail, into a 25 mile trail loop, with public cooperation, stewardship, and preservation of the natural resources thereby enhancing area's livability.

Our Goals:   To enhance the City of Warrenton's and surrounding area's livability by developing a continuous trail system that would use the existing Warrenton waterfront trail as a bench mark and connect to the existing Fort Stevens State Park trail, the future Fort Clatsop to Sea trail, the Warrenton dike and all the areas in between into an approximate 25 multiuse trail loop.

Goal #1 - To develop a Concept Paper that describes the approximate 25 mile trail loop.  The concept paper would define each segment, objectives of needed improvements, and opportunities of users, road conditions, traffic and safety issues, signage needs, convenience facilities, accessibility, maintenance and beautification requirements.

Goal #2 - To identify all stakeholders who have a specific interest in this project, to include landowners of the proposed trail, nearby landowners, City, County and State agencies who have an interest in its development and the trail users.

Goal #3 - To inventory each trail section to include specific information about the existing land structure, under what jurisdiction land travels, improvements needed and priority of success. (See concept paper for specific trail information)

Goal #4 - To promote public and private partnership support for the trail, by educating the stakeholders, community members and users through access to the natural ecosystems of the rivers, sloughs and ocean; establishing fundraising efforts; and promote the historical significance of our area through interpretative signage.

Goal #5 - To solicit public and private funding sources to create, enhance and maintain the 25 mile multiuse trail loop.

Goal #6 - Establish a system of volunteers to provide overarching care of     the trail.

Goal #7 - To achieve goals one through six over the next three years.
