Waterfront Trail

Hike along the Warrenton waterfront for stunning views of the Columbia River and the Astoria-Megler Bridge. These trails are great for wildlife viewing, particularly waterfowl year around along the Lagoon Spur Trail.  The Waterfront Trail follows an historic railroad grade through mature forests with outstanding vistas at historic Tansy Point and Alder Creek (see local history).

Large ships heading for inland harbors often cruise by and occasionally Pilot Boats will be helping them navigate the Columbia River inlet which has a reputation for being the treacherous "graveyard of the Pacific."   The orange and white helicopters you may see are the U.S. Coast Guard.

Seasonally this trail changes with migration of land and sea animals. Some of the experiences you may have with wildlife may include, seeing Elk or Deer, hearing and seeing birds of prey like Bald Eagles and Osprey, hearing Sea Lions, seeing large and small sea birds such as Western Gulls and Brown Pelicans. Everyday is different and there is always plenty to explore!
